Reducing Your Waste

WALLS, FLOOR AND FURNITURE CLEANER

Walls:
Murphy's oil soap is a safe cleaner to use when wiping down your walls for normal cleaning. For crayon marks, rub gently with an S.O.S. pad.

Linoleum Floor- Cleaner/Wax:
Mop with 1 cup white vinegar mixed with 2 gallons water to remove dull, greasy film. Polish with Club Soda.

Wood Floor - Wax/Cleaner:
Mix half oil and vinegar solution. Apply in a thin coat and rub in well.

OR Painted wooden floors can be washed with 1 teaspoon washing soda and 1 gallon hot water. Rinse with clear water;

OR Mix 1/8 cup food-grade linseed oil, 1/8 cup vinegar, 1/4 cup lemon juice in glass jar. Add a few drops of vitamin E, cover and save leftovers.

Floor and Furniture Polish:
Apply 1 part lemon juice, 2 parts olive or vegetable oil.

Water Marks on Wood Furniture:
Water marks can be removed by rubbing essence of peppermint into the spot followed by polishing with a soft cloth;

OR
Sprinkle salt on the water mark and rub it with a cloth dipped in vegetable oil. Re-wax the spot when the stain disappears;

OR
Apply toothpaste to the spot and rub lightly with an S.O.S. pad (with all the soap gone) in a circular motion.

Rug or Upholstery Cleaner:
Clean stains immediately with Club Soda. Will remove spots on rugs and upholstery;

OR Sprinkle dry cornstarch on rug and vacuum;

OR Mix together 6 Tbsp soap powder, 2 cups boiling water, 2 Tbsp Borax and let cool. Shake vigorously. Use only the suds and apply with brush or damp cloth on a small area (test hidden area for fastness first).

Grease can be removed from upholstery by working a paste of baking soda and water into the stain. Let dry then vacuum. Red Wine will come out if lots of salt is poured on a new spot, allowed to stand for 30 minutes and vacuumed. Ink spots can be treated with a paste of milk and cornmeal. Rub the paste into the spot and let dry for several hours, then vacuum.

Carpet Deodorizer:
Sprinkle area with baking soda, then vacuum.
