Island Heritage Centre's Environmental Department is involved in many environmental
issues regarding Walpole Island First Nation's well-being. The Environmental
staff is made up of a number of individuals skilled in many areas of environmental
study. The Natural Heritage
Program studies many nationally rare, threatened and endangered plant and
wildlife species found on the Walpole Island First Nation. Along with their studies,
they also pay much respect to Mother Nature as to not disrupt her ambience.
| ENVIRONMENTAL PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT |
To preserve, enhance and maintain a mutual respect and to continue
our beneficial dependency upon the environment we shall endeavour to co-exist
with Mother Nature and protect this relationship. We, the Anishnabeg
of the Walpole Island First Nation, pledge to use these resources to the mutual
benefit of all people. We shall therefore ensure proper respect for all
resources. As our elders have done, we shall maintain laws that preserve our wildlife,
lands and resources. |
